Japanese natural stone #5 - Nakayama suita (I)

This is a tiny Nakayama Suita, I bought it from Rakuten(Japanese Ebay) for $50 shipped. Originally intended to use it as a nagura for a Nakayama Suita I once own but it didn't work out that way, I didn't end up keeping that Nakayama Suita, I do miss that stone sometimes!

When I first bought this tiny Suita, it wasn't attach on a Dai and it's a pain in the ass to sharpen on because of the irregular shape and light weight (~400g), it moves around even on a towel.

One day I thought I might as well put it on a Dai so I can maybe use it to sharpen my Kiridashis, and I think it works out quite well, I can even sharpen on a 270mm single bevel with no issues at all :-D

  • Sharpening feel

Creamy and buttery, as long as I don't put too much water on it, when I put a bit too much on the sharpening feel turns to unpleasant, water control is quite important for this one, it seems to be the same with most of the finer/harder stones I've tried too.

  • Edge

Edge is quite refine, still have a bit of bite

  • Characteristic of the stone (on a scale of 5)

Hardness - high 3 to low 4

Fineness - Low 4

Speed - 4.5
